There was a point in time where you could by a BridgeX from the Internet or from the XYO Network. Nope, not anymore. If you haven't purchased one, you can make your own!

OK great, what is a Bridge?
Your guess is as good as mine, but the definition from the XYO Network Bridge page:
"A physical device (like a smart phone or one of our BridgeX devices) in the XYO network that finds bound witness interactions (as mentioned in the Sentinel definition). When the bridge finds an interaction it places a signature on it which confirms the interaction."

Great, a new word... Sentinel! Tell me what the hell this is...
There are 2 types of Sentinels, NFC and BLE
SentinelX NFC looks like a credit card that you scan with the COIN app on your smart phone every 4 hours
SentinelX BLE is a small hexagon thingie that is Bluetooth enabled and you don't have to scan every 4 hours.
Both of these Sentinels give you a bonus in the COIN app... BLE gives the most.

So basically a SentinelX verifies your location and if you come across another SentinelX, that is a Bound Witness. The Bound Witness basically say... "Hey Homie, I seen you here and I will back that up." Now when you come across a bridge, it will take this information from the SentinelX and the Bound Witnesses it seen and upload it to the Archivist.

From my understanding, the BridgeX is not fully functional at this time. (The XYO Network is still growing)
It does however, give some bonuses for your Home Base. Your Home Base is a square that you mine 3 times in a row.
It gives your Home base 100% bonus that expires in 5 days and instead of your bonus increasing every 1 hour, it increases every 12 mins.

To get started, the following products I recommend and they are what I used to make my Bridge:
I do not recommend the PI 4, I have heard people could not get it to work or they had to recompile the kernel and still had issues.

This kit comes with everything you need to get going. RPI 3B+, Power adapter, push button switch and a case (which I didn't use.)

We need a Micro SD Card to get everything setup. Once we are setup, we can boot from and use a flash drive which boots faster.

I use the following Touch Screen and case so I can take my Bridge with me and see what I am doing...

Now we need the BridgeX image and software to burn to the Micro SD card and the flash drive.
There are a few types of software you can use to burn the image to the SD card or flash drive and make it bootable:

  • The Official Raspberry Pi Imager is cool because you can manually select an image (what we want) or select an RPI OS to burn and it will download what is needed.
  • balenaEtcher is simple and open source
  • I have used Rufus for other projects only because my cats' name is Rufus
Now, you need to download the BridgeX software and burn it to the MicroSD card

Insert your MicroSD card into the PI after you burn it. You can assemble your PI now. Boot your Bridge now, if you see a rainbow screen, either your display is not compatible, the ribbon is not inserted correctly or something else.
If you see a login screen, the password is "geohacker". That's it, you technically have a somewhat working bridge. The COIN app will detect it and so will the XYO Network App. Either leave it running or boot it when you are at your homebase. It does not use much energy, so I leave it running.

TODO:

  • Change password
  • Set OTP bit to boot from flash drive
  • Upgrade OS
  • Setup unattended upgrades
  • SSH into Bridge
  • Access Bridge from browser
  • Add pictures
